Black Like Me
"Men chained together are brothers"
so said the wrestler to Kunta Kinte.
Therefore when I see people like me,
I love them for who they are.
Whether their face is veiled,
or whether in an old church where I hear the wails.
They are Black like me.
When the man has a ball in his hand,
running from side to side, or base to base.
I see the pigment in his face.
I cheer, cuz he is Black like me.
From the dreadlock brothers on the block,
to the bald brothers in on lock.
I salute and love them,
right or wrong
cuz they are Black like me.
I don't apologize for the reasons why,
the stories and lies.
We are who we are.
Educated or ignorant,
enlightened or darkened.
We are the same.
Black like We.
